One of the purposes of this course is to get a proper Biblical view of the study and the fact of sin. How will a proper understanding of this help you in your Christian walk? In your post state three facts about sin, and explain at least how proper understanding of one of them has impacted your Christian life positively.

Having a proper biblical understanding of sin is important because it helps a Christian understand the seriousness of sin, the condition of humanity, and the need for the grace and salvation that God has provided through Jesus Christ. When sin is viewed only as doing something wrong, it can be easy to minimize it. However, Scripture shows that sin affects our relationship with God and our daily walk with Him. A correct understanding of sin should therefore produce humility, repentance, obedience, and a greater appreciation for the work of Christ.
Three facts about sin from my point of view are:

1. Sin separates man from God.
Sin damages man’s relationship with God because God is holy. Isaiah 59:2 states, “But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you.” Sin is therefore more than breaking a rule; it is rebellion against God’s will and creates separation from Him.

2. All people have sinned.
The Bible makes it clear that sin is a universal human problem. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” This means that nobody can claim righteousness based on personal goodness or achievements. Every person needs God’s mercy and forgiveness.

3. Sin leads to death, but God offers eternal life through Christ.
Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Sin has serious consequences, but God has provided the answer through Jesus Christ. Through His death and resurrection, believers can receive forgiveness and reconciliation with God.

One way this understanding has positively impacted my Christian life is by helping me take sin more seriously. When I understand that sin is not merely a mistake but something that affects my relationship with God, I become more conscious of my thoughts, words, attitudes, and actions. It encourages me to examine myself and quickly turn to God in repentance when I recognize that I have done wrong. Rather than making excuses for my actions, I am reminded of the need to humble myself before God and depend on His grace.

At the same time, understanding the seriousness of sin has helped me appreciate God’s grace more deeply. I know that I cannot make myself righteous through my own efforts. As 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” This gives me confidence to approach God when I fail rather than running away from Him.

In conclusion, a proper biblical understanding of sin helps the Christian walk in humility, repentance, obedience, and dependence on God. It reveals the seriousness of sin while also pointing us to the hope, forgiveness, and new life found in Jesus Christ.

The study of sin provides believers with a vital perspective for navigating our Christian walk by acting as a guide against any forms of deception of Satan, as captured in the story that took place in the Garden of Eden when man fell.

Based on the biblical study in the course, several facts about sin can be drawn:
Sin carries consequences: The act of sin and rebellion carries immense reward, and its wages are death. This death is a separation from God.
Sin is ultimately against God and separates us from Him: Sin is a transgression of God’s will and therefore signifies a deviation from his purpose for man. This deviation causes a separation and breaches the relationship man had with God from the beginning.
Sin Originates from a deliberate choice: Sin was not part of the original creation; it entered the human race through a deliberate historical fall by actions taken by the first man and woman to disobey God’s instruction. This choice drove man out of God’s presence, which is now termed the fall of man.

Understanding how sin is against God has enabled me to fight sin as I would fight sickness and death, because the wages of sin are death, and I do not want to receive such rewards. My goal is to run the race unto the end. Sin is a deliberate choice that is usually driven by love of self and deception by satan. In the Garden of Eden, the devil successfully tempted Eve by appealing to her self-interest at the expense of God’s interest and command. In Genesis 3:6, the woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasant to the eyes, and desirable to make one wise.

Recognising that satan is a roaring lion looking for whom to devour has transformed how I handle temptations. Instead of viewing temptation merely as an external pressure or blaming it on circumstances, I recognise that temptation usually targets an inward desire to rely on self rather than on God’s directive and wisdom. This awareness drives me to be grounded in the word of God and actively rely on the Holy Spirit rather than my own strength. The knowledge that Christ has set believers free from the bondage of the old nature of sin empowers me to renew my mind, reject any rise of self-centeredness and choose to obey God with confidence that He wishes the best for me.

A proper biblical understanding of sin helps me recognize its origin, identify how it operates, and appreciate the redemption I have received in Jesus Christ. The more clearly, I understand sin, the more intentionally I can walk in obedience, holiness, and dependence on God’s Word.
Three Facts About Sin
1. Sin entered the human race through the Fall of Adam.
Sin was not part of God’s original creation. Adam and Eve were created innocent and without a sinful nature, but disobedience brought sin, death, guilt, fear, and separation from God into human experience. Romans 5:12 explains that through one man sin entered the world, and death spread to all humanity. Therefore, sin is not only a series of wrong actions; it also affected humanity’s nature and relationship with God.
2. The devil tempts, but he cannot force anyone to sin.
James 1:13–15 shows that temptation works through desire: desire conceives, gives birth to sin, and sin produces death. The devil may present an opportunity or appeal to a person’s vulnerability, but the final decision belongs to the individual. Adam and Eve made a choice, and Adam deliberately listened to his wife’s voice above God’s instruction.
A revelation that the riches of God kindness, forbearance and patience is intended to lead us to repentance, according to Romans 2:4, has kept me from sinning but embracing the life and nature that He has made available to me in Christ.

3. The wages of sin are death, but Christ provides life and freedom.
Romans 6:23 teaches that the wages of sin is death, while God’s gift is eternal life through Jesus Christ. Death is in three dimensions: physical death, spiritual death, and eternal death. Spiritual death is the separation of the soul from God, while eternal death is the culmination of spiritual death, with no hope of redemption. However, through the finished work of Christ, believers are made alive to God and are no longer slaves to sin. The sin nature was introduced at the Fall, but by Jesus’ sacrifice of Himself, He has instituted a new way of life in Him.
This truth teaches me that sin no longer authority over me, Romans 6:16 say we are slaves to whom we choose to obey, whether to sin leading to death or righteousness leading to eternal life. The choice is mine and I choose life in Christ Jesus.
