Truths Concerning Healing and Health in the Lord’s Table (Communion)
The Lord’s Table, or Holy Communion, is more than a religious ceremony. It is a remembrance of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and what His death accomplished for us that believe in Him. Scripture reveals important truths concerning healing and health through the Lord’s Table.

First, Christ’s Body was given for us.
Jesus said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me” (1 Corinthians 11:24). The bread represents the body of Christ that was given for us. Isaiah 53:5 declares concerning Christ, “And by His stripes we are healed.”
Therefore, when believers partake of the bread, we are reminded of Christ’s suffering and His provision for healing.
The stripes, wounds, and bruises were borne in His physical body, and in Communion we partake of the bread that represents that same body which was broken and bruised for us. This reminds us that JESUS- Our Saviour, endured physically suffering on our behalf.
As we partake of His body by faith, we are reminded of the healing that has been made available to us through His finished work. The Communion table points our faith toward Christ’s sacrifice and the benefits of His finished work.

Second, healing and health are connected with properly discerning the Lord’s body.
Paul gives a serious warning concerning the way believers partake of Communion: “For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body” (1 Corinthians 11:29). He then states, “For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep” (1 Corinthians 11:30).
This shows that there is a connection between discerning the Lord’s body and physical wellbeing. Therefore, properly discerning the Lord’s body should not only mean recognizing the significance of Christ’s sacrifice but also understanding that His body was given for our wellbeing, including healing and health.
As believers we are to rightly discern the Lord’s body and what Christ accomplished through His suffering, we are expected to walk in the reality of the healing and health that God has provided through Christ. Therefore we are to receive The Communion by faith and with understanding, knowing that Christ’s body was broken for us and that “by His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).

Third, God is revealed in Scripture as the One who heals and who brings His promises to fulfillment. Exodus 15:26 declares, “For I am the LORD who heals you.” Psalm 103:2-3 also says, “Bless the LORD, O my soul… Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases.” These Scriptures establish that healing is part of God’s character and that believers can look to Him as their healer.
This Promises JESUS- who is GOD, has given us as our inheritance when He willingly gave Himself for us. (Isaiah 53: 5- “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed) .
Psalm 103: 2-3 shows us GOD’s promises, and Isaiah 53:5 shows us JESUS handing over this promised to us by the price He paid by giving Himself for us. How glorious!
Fourth, Christ’s sacrifice provides a basis for trusting God for healing. Isaiah 53:4-5 says that Christ bore our griefs and carried our sorrows and that “by His stripes we are healed.” Matthew 8:16-17 connects this prophecy with Jesus’ healing ministry, saying that He “Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.” Therefore, the Lord’s Table reminds us that Jesus is not indifferent to human suffering. His ministry demonstrated compassion toward the sick, and His sacrifice gives us- believers reason to trust God concerning our health and healing.

Furthermore, healing is the children’s bread. In Matthew 15:26, Jesus said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” The woman responded by saying that even the little dogs eat “the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table” (Matthew 15:27). Jesus then commended her faith, and her daughter was healed (Matthew 15:28). This account shows the healing provision associated with the children of God. Jesus also declared, “I am the bread of life” (John 6:35). Therefore, as we come to the Lord’s Table and partake of the bread that represents Christ’s body given for us, we are reminded of Christ, the Bread of Life, and the provision of healing found in partaking of His body-The bread of Life provided for The Children of GOD.

Finally, Communion calls us to approach God in faith and thanksgiving. James 5:14-15 teaches us to call for the elders of the church when sick and to pray in faith, while Psalm 107:20 says, “He sent His word and healed them.” Communion should therefore strengthen our faith in God rather than become a mere routine. As we partake of the bread, we remember Christ’s body given for us and look to God with faith for His healing and sustaining grace.
