When I think of the coming of Christ, my heart is filled with deep joy, hope, and anticipation. The return of the Lord is not a fearful thought to me; rather, it is one of the greatest sources of comfort and encouragement in my walk with God. In a world filled with pain, uncertainty, sin, disappointment, and suffering, the promise that Jesus Christ will return gives my life meaning and perspective. It reminds me that this present world is not the end of the story and that a glorious future awaits those who belong to Him.
Personally, whenever I meditate on the return of Christ, one of the first things that comes to my mind is the end of sorrow and troubles. Life on earth is filled with burdens. People battle sickness, loss, rejection, fear, injustice, and countless struggles. Even believers sometimes experience moments of weakness, persecution, and heartbreak. However, the coming of Christ reminds me that a day is coming when all these things will finally pass away. Revelation 21:4 says that God “shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain.” This scripture gives me great peace because it assures me that the pain of this present age is temporary.
The coming of Christ also stirs in me a strong desire to live a holy and pleasing life before God. Knowing that Jesus can return at any time helps me remain spiritually alert and intentional in my walk with Him. It reminds me that my life should not be consumed only by earthly pursuits and temporary pleasures, but by eternal values. Whenever I think of His return, I examine my heart and ask myself whether I am truly living for Him and representing Him faithfully in my generation.
Another thing I feel when I think about Christ’s return is excitement about finally seeing Him face to face. As believers, we love a Savior we have never physically seen. We worship Him, pray to Him, trust Him, and build our lives around Him by faith. But one day, faith will become sight. The thought that I will one day behold Jesus in His glory fills my heart with overwhelming joy. I imagine the beauty of standing before the One who died for me, saved me, sustained me, forgave me, and loved me unconditionally. No earthly experience can compare to that moment.
The return of Christ also reminds me that God is faithful to His promises. Throughout Scripture, God consistently fulfilled His word, and the promise of Christ’s second coming will not fail. Jesus Himself said in John 14:3, “I will come again, and receive you unto myself.” This assurance strengthens my confidence in God, especially during difficult seasons. It reminds me that history is moving according to God’s divine plan and that evil will not prevail forever.
In addition, thinking about the coming of Christ gives me compassion for souls who do not yet know Him. It reminds me that time is short and that many people still need to hear the gospel. The reality of Christ’s return should not only produce excitement in believers but also urgency. It motivates me to share the message of salvation and to encourage others to come to Christ while there is still opportunity.
Finally, when I think of the coming of Christ, I think of victory. I think of the day when sin, darkness, death, and Satan will be completely defeated. I think of the fulfillment of God’s kingdom and the beginning of eternal fellowship with Him. The return of Christ is the believer’s blessed hope. It is the assurance that our labor in the Lord is not in vain and that a glorious eternity awaits us.
Therefore, whenever I contemplate the soon return of our Lord, my heart rejoices. It fills me with peace in troubled times, strength in difficult seasons, and hope for the future. More than anything else, it reminds me that this world is temporary, but Christ’s kingdom is eternal.
