Truths Concerning Healing and Health in the Lord’s Table
The Lord’s Table, or Communion, is more than a religious ceremony. It is a covenant meal instituted by Jesus Christ to help believers remember His sacrifice and walk continually in the revelation of all that He died to accomplish in us. When we partake in the communion, we remember that Christ was made a representative for us. He paid the price and was sentenced to the prison sinners were sentenced. We remember that we share in the likeness of His death and therefore in His resurrection, having been raised to newness of life in Him. Rom 6:5.
Dead to Sin, sickness and diseases and alive in Christ Jesus, our Lord who loved us and gave Himself for us.
1. The breaking of bread represents His body broken for us
When Jesus instituted the Lord’s Table, He took bread, broke it, and said, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me” (Luke 22:19). The bread points to His body broken, a sacrifice offered that ours might remain whole.
Isaiah prophesied concerning the Messiah: “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). Matthew connects this prophecy with Jesus’ healing ministry, saying that He “healed all who were sick” so that Isaiah’s words might be fulfilled (Matthew 8:16–17). Similarly, 1 Peter 2:24 declares, “By whose stripes you were healed.”
Therefore, whenever believers partake of the communion in faith, they should remember that Christ’s redemptive work included provision for the whole person—spirit, soul, and body.
2. The cup represents the new covenant.
Jesus said concerning the cup, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you” (Luke 22:20). Matthew 26:28 adds that His blood was shed “for the remission of sins.”
Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come, disobeyed God and therefore sin entered the world, and by one man’s offence many died and were condemned to fallen state. But by His blood poured out an offering for sin, the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many. Rom 5:12-15
Christ in the sacrifice of Himself put away the old (covenant) and ushered us into a new (covenant), restoring us into God’s original plan, design and intent for man.
Sin brought about condemnation, and separation from God, but Christ’s blood provides forgiveness and restoration. The believer can approach the Lord’s Table with confidence, knowing that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1).
